South African-born American composer Emlyn Ellis Addison centers his neo-retro electronica on unconventional instrumentation, complex rhythmic structures, "tactile" sound-making and unusual meters. His beautiful, craning melodic forms and lavish rhythmic outlays are suspended over expansive open-chord harmonic foundations; organic, driving, and seductive. His orchestral works cover a wide spectrum, from radical transformations of popular melodies ("melodic memes") to recapturing the spirit of courage and entrepreneurship of the American West. Emlyn studied composition at Arizona State University, and earned a Master of Composition - New Media at the California Institute of The Arts.
